The stabbing in Kalihi sent a man to the hospital on Saturday. But before arriving at Queen's Medical Center, the wounded victim drove himself across the island to the North Shore.
Nicolas Ventura says his brother, 27-year-old Brandon Ventura, was jumped by a group of males on Kalihi Street.
"He was bleeding really bad and then he kept sitting down and he kept passing out. So we kept checking his pressure, making sure his hearts going, he's not gonna die on us," Nicolas said.
Video from the scene on Kalihi St. and Democrat St. show cop cars, yellow tape, and broken glass.
Nicolas says his brother took his girlfriend to visit her two children who were staying with their father, Perry-Pruski.
"He was sitting in his car. He was looking down on his phone and he had no idea this was gonna happen, and they show up with a baseball bat and they smashed the window. They smashed the mirror and tried ripping his door. He pushed the door open, and fought two of them, kinda got away with it. The other kid pulled out a knife and came back. Right as he was walking away, they stabbed him, twice on one side, and one on the right, two on the left and one on the right," said Nicolas.
Nicolas says Brandon immediately jumped in his car and raced to Waialua to meet him. Nicolas met him outside after he called 911. Police, firefighters, and paramedics arrived on scene. EMS says they transported Ventura in serious condition. But Nicolas says it was much more severe.
"He started passing out, so much blood coming out of his body…they laid him down, they said he's critical," he said.
Nicolas says this isn't the first physical altercation between his brother and Perry-Pruski, but definitely the most serious.
