The first ever Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival will premiere at The Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art on March 28th & 29th 2015.
The festival features a rock star line up of performers from a "Start Up Team" based in Honolulu to a Broadway veteran who, according to HISF producer Kimee Balmilero, "Sings her face off!" The festival will also host special comedy workshops led by top players from the famed Uprights Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles, a troupe founded by Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh and SNL's Amy Poehler.
"We are pretty stoked about our line up," says Balmilero. "To be able to reach people outside of Hawaii for our very first year is pretty amazing!" The festival successfully hit their $10,000 fundraising goal via Indiegogo back in January and has received social media shout outs from comedy heavy hitters Bill Burr and Wayne Brady.
The March 28th live show will feature the first Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival Start Up Team, "Goof Troop Riot." This group of fresh sketch comedy writers has been teamed up with a professional LA based writer/mentor that they work with weekly.
Broadway veteran and powerhouse vocalist, Shoshana Bean, who recently appeared on "The Queen Latifah Show" will provide live music at the March 28th opening show.

Along with the March 28th live show and the March 29th screening at the Doris Duke Theatre, The Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival will host comedy workshops and panels at Kaka'ako Agora and the Manoa Innovation Center. Workshops include: Sketch Comedy Writing, Improv (UCB Style), Creating Strong Comedic Characters, and Writing Song Parodies.
The festival is also holding contests to give the public a chance to create their own original content. "Office Play" is a music video competition where creators showcase what makes their workspace fun. Winners will receive an in office lunch catered by Bethel Street Tap Room.
