HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police aren't saying why they released Brandon Lorenz as a suspect in the attempted murders of a Kalihi Valley woman and her two young children, but his attorney contends someone else is responsible.
Brandon Lorenz walked out the Honolulu Police Department holding cell a free man, 48 hours after he had turned himself in connection with the stabbing of his former girlfriend, 28-year-old Megan Isomura, as well as her 8-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son.
"The first thing we want to do is thank the Honolulu Police Department for coming to the right conclusion here, and allowing Mr. Lorenz to be out and home at this time," said Marcus Landsberg, Lorenz's attorney.
The three were stabbed as they slept in their apartment at Kamehameha IV Housing.
Other residents there don't believe Lorenz's release is the right conclusion. One woman who lives in an adjacent building told Hawaii News Now they were angry, especially because there are lots of children who live at the housing complex. But according to the attorney, Lorenz gave investigators information but remained mum on what it is.
"Mr. Lorenz did give a statement on the situation," he said. "I believe the police took that into consideration. I don't want to say too much else about where they got other information that caused them to believe that he shouldn't be in custody at the time."
Isomura and her two children remain in serious condition as Lorenz's attorney claims the real stabber is still on the loose.
"Our heart goes out to Miss Isomura as well as her children, and we want to make sure that what happens is they are able to find the person who actually committed this crime in this situation," Landsberg said,
Lorenz didn't comment on Wednesday, leaving the talking to his attorney as the case remains under investigation.
