KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Maui High School teacher has been put on indefinite leave by the Department of Education pending an investigation into a sexting scandal.

The DOE did not specify details, but police sources said David Bui, a Maui High teacher for 10 years and former head football coach, has been sending sexually explicit messages to a teenage girl for more than a year.

He has not been arrested, but the girl's parents reportedly filed a police report accusing him of harassment.

Bui suddenly announced his decision to step down as head coach Tuesday, citing family reasons and wanting to coach his son's little league team instead.
