HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii House of Representatives is taking up a challenge that questions whether a member is eligible to serve.

House Speaker Joseph Souki on Wednesday appointed a committee to consider the challenge. It was brought by six Palolo voters who say the former Speaker Rep. Calvin Say doesn't live in the district he represents.

Say says he looks forward to responding to the evidence. He says he has confidence the committee will be fair.

Attorney Lance Collins who brought the challenge says his clients hope the issue will get a fair shake.

Souki appointed six representatives to a special committee. House Majority Leader Scott Saiki says the committee will hold public hearings and then recommend a course of action.

The group's recommendation will be voted on by the full House.
