KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state Public Charter School Commission will host a fair Wednesday night to help Halau Lokahi students find a new school following financial woes that forced the school to shut down.
The commission voted 6-2 last week to begin shutting down Halau Lokahi Public Charter School, ending a long struggle to save the Kalihi school, which stopped paying rent and salaries, and ran up $500,000 in debt before the end of last school year.
Halau Lokahi will stay open through this week, but after that, employees will not get paid due to lack of funds.
The fair will take place Jan. 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at:
Farrington High School Library
1564 North King Street
Honolulu, HI 96817
