Hawaii bakes in week's worth of record heat

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you thought it's been hot during the last week, the National Weather Service has the numbers to back you up.
According to forecasters, record high temperatures were set or tied in Hilo, Kahului and Lihue over the past seven days.
- Sept. 17 -- The high temperature in Hilo was 89 degrees, tying the record last set in 1995.
- Sept. 18 -- For the second day in a row, the high in Hilo was 89, tying the record last set also in 1995.
- Sept. 19 -- A record high temperature of 90 degrees was set in Hilo, breaking the old record of 89 set in 1974.
- Sept. 20 -- A record high of 95 degrees was set at Kahului, shattering the previous record of 92 set in 1996. Meanwhile, Hilo had a high temperature of 90, tying the record last set in 1981.
- Sept. 21 -- Kahului's high temperature of 93 tied the record set in 1977.
- Sept. 22 -- Kahului's high reached 92 degrees, tying the record set in 1993.
- Sept. 23 -- The heat reached Lihue, which had a high temperature of 88 degrees. This tied the record last set in 2003.
- Sept. 24 -- The high temperature of 89 in Hilo tied the record last set in 2005. In Lihue, the high was 87, tying the old record last set in 2013.
While trade winds have returned, temperatures are still expected to remain on the warm side with daytime highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s into the weekend.
