Honolulu man falls 40 feet off of Kalihiwai Bridge

KALIHIWAI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai fire crews rushed to the Kalihiwai Bridge early Saturday morning to rescue a 40-year-old man who reportedly fell off of the bridge.


According to the Kauai Fire Department, the man had been jogging on the makai side of the bridge around 2:45 a.m. when he fell approximately 40 feet and then clung onto a tree on the side of the cliff.

Firefighters from the Hanalei station responded to the scene and rescued the man.

Officials say the man injured his left leg and shoulder. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital for additional treatment.

Kuhio Highway was closed from 3 a.m. to 4:25 a.m. to allow the rescuers to perform the operation.
