American Savings hires police security after recent robberies
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Off-duty police officers and security guards are at every American Savings Bank after several armed hold-ups in the month of May.
Honolulu Police believe robberies on May 1, 13, and 30 are all connected.
Evidence was recovered from the most recent case including gloves and a mask. Police are waiting for forensic test results to help find the crooks and determine if three men arrested on unrelated crimes are involved.
Friday afternoon, HPD was told that the suspected bank robbers were possibly at a Honolulu business. Undercover officers followed three men in a Ford Focus from that business but the driver realized what was happening and took off. Police chased the men for a short time.
The car was abandoned in Kalihi and the men allegedly jumped a fence onto military property.
Shaun Cabinatan, Shawn Skarban, and Travis Torres were taken into custody at Fort Shafter for trespassing. Torres, the suspected driver of the car was also arrested for crimes related to the chase.
