Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Spring season is typically defined as a time of "new beginnings".  So, it's only fitting that the Rainbow Warriors are using spring practice to toy and tinker with various possibilities.

Beau Yap is a prime example of just that.

After spending the first four practices lined up as a linebacker, Yap returned to defensive end in the Warriors base defense, Tuesday.
The senior has spent his entire college career with his hand in the dirt as a defensive lineman.
Defensive coordinator Kevin Clune says he just needs to see what Yap can bring to the table.

"We're going to try and use him in a lot of different ways." says Clune. "We're going to figure out what is the best for the team. What's the best pairing of backers and d-lines. The best matchups and things like that. We're going to use him in a lot of different ways. Third down will be fun because we have a lot of different tools."

Last season, Yap logged 37 tackles, 12 for loss and 5.5 sacks. He hasn't played linebacker since he helped lead the Kamehameha Warriors to a state title in 2009.

"It's a great learning experience and kind of a lot more freedom on the runs and stuff." said Yap.
"There's a lot more time to react to plays and you have a lot more opportunity to make plays too."

In other linebacker news, David Manoa returned to the field Tuesday after suffering a dislocated knee cap on Saturday.

He is expected to miss the remainder of spring camp.

The Bows' return to the practice field on thursday at 7am.
