Maui Beach reopens after shark sighting

MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui Department of Land and Natural Resources closed Mana Kai Beach for two hours after a shark sighting on Sunday around 1 p.m.

According to Maui Lifeguard officials, two or three women standup paddle boarders were a quarter mile offshore of Mana Kai Beach when they spotted the shark.

The shark was reportedly showing aggressive behavior towards the paddle boards. According to witnesses the shark also followed the paddle boarders for a short amount of time.

Officials say at some point the paddle boarders lost sight of the shark.

Officials reopened the beach reopened at approximately 3 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
