State sheriffs warn of jury duty warrant scam

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The State Department of Public Safety has put out an alert warning of a scam from people claiming to be sheriff's deputies.

According to the department, individuals have been calling random people and claiming to be deputies serving warrants for people who did not show up for jury duty. The caller then offers to clear the warrant if people will pay for a product or service.

The department said deputy sheriffs will never call people about warrants regarding jury duty, nor will they solicit the purchase of anything.

Anyone who has received such a call is asked to alert the Sheriff Division by calling 586-1352.
