Ige's Restaurant closing Saturday night

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's been a neighborhood institution for a decade, but as of Sunday, it will cease to exist.

Ige's Restaurant and 19^th Puka is closing its doors for good Saturday night.

"You know what, it's been fun, it's been lots of fun.  When Colt Brennan was playing we made lots of money" reminisced Ron Ige, the restaurant's owner.  Those were the good times as he recalls "oh man the restaurant was packed solid for the games.  Everyone wanted to be here".

As times changed, so did the restaurant, evolving to a local hot spot for live music.

"We do it with live music now, so we have bands every week.  We have dancing every Friday night so we have a big following for that".

That following will have one last weekend to enjoy the ride.  Friday night is the last night of table service.  Reservation placards had been placed on almost every table in the room by midday Friday.

Saturday night the doors will open at 7pm.  There will be a 20 dollar cover charge that includes an all-you-can-eat buffet of some of Ige's classic entrees.  Additionally, five different music bands will play Saturday night.

What will Ron miss the most? "Mainly the people I think.  The band members, their guests, the following, we're all friends now".

Don't feel too bad for Ron, because he has plenty of good days ahead.  "I'm going fishing, golfing, all the things I wanted to do".

Ige's Catering Company remains open for business.
