Search for suspicious individual prompts Kauluwela Elementary School lockdown

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu elementary school was placed under lockdown Friday morning as police searched for a suspicious individual last seen in the area.

According to a spokesperson for the Department of Education, Kauluwela Elementary School was locked down at approximately 7:30 a.m. after a fight broke out near the campus.  Witnesses told police a man involved in the fight was carrying a gun.

Police searched the school, which is located on Aala St. near Vineyard Blvd., and the nearby Times Supermarket in Liliha for the individual, but did not find him.  Officers left the campus shortly before 9 a.m.

No students or teachers were harmed.
