HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Electric crews have restored power to 20,000 customers following a widespread outage spanning Manoa, Palolo, Kaimuki, and portions of Kahala.

The outage was first reported at approximately 7:45 pm and restored by 8:30 pm, according to a spokesperson.

Hawaiian Electric says the exact cause of the outage remains under investigation, but a preliminary review indicates the outage started after an equipment malfunction at an electrical substation in Palolo.
