HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It was like a scene out of a Hawaii Five-O episode as a loud explosion rocked the house of star Alex O'Loughlin.

But this time it was for real.

"We heard a boom and his garage door blew off and we saw the smoke," said next-door neighbor Muriel Lighter.

"We were running back and forth (yelling) 'get out of the house.'"

The actor wasn't at his Diamond Head home when the fire started but returned to check out the damage.

The real emergency was clearly not as enjoyable as the many explosions and fires he escapes on TV as Commander Steve McGarrett.

The fire was contained within 20 minutes and the damage is estimated at about $110,000 dollars.

"The first company arriving found smoke and flame coming out of the garage," said Capt. Terry Seelig, spokesman for the Honolulu Fire Department.

"The fire appears to have caused heavy damage to the garage and its contents and nothing to the house."

The property valued at $4 million dollars by the city's tax appraisers.

The home was bought in 2011 for $3.5 million.

O'Loughlin had been living there with former model Malia Jones and three children.

No one was injured and the cause is undetermined.
