(HawaiiNewsNow) - Gov. Neil Abercrombie is expected to attend a meeting Tuesday in Washington focusing on climate change and preparation and recovery from natural disasters.
The meeting, hosted by the White House, is the first of President Barack Obama's Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. President Obama established the task force in November in hopes of advising the administration on how the federal government can respond to the needs of communities dealing with extreme weather, sea level rise and other impacts of climate change.
Task force members will have the chance to share their recommendations on implementing climate preparedness measures.
Gov. Abercrombie is expected to return Wednesday. Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui is acting governor during his leave.
