HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Lanes of the H-1 near the Kinau St. off-ramp have been restriped after drivers complained of the changes to the Department of Transportation. Hawaii News Now crews witnessed several close calls as drivers tried to negotiate the area.

Changes included a solid white line and a single exit-lane at Kinau St. What used to be the farthest right lane had also been modified to be a shoulder and was supposed to be off-limits.

The goal was to reduce the number of lanes that had to be closed for rehab work. But drivers traveled down the lane anyway, apparently confused by the changes. But late Monday and into early Tuesday morning, work crews restriped the lanes back to their original configuration.
