HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Newly released FBI files reveal numerous death threats against Senator Daniel Inouye dating all the way back to the 1950s.

Some of the more notable incidents include an anonymous phone caller threatening Inouye in 1973 because of his Japanese ancestry, in the 1980s, Inouye was threatened during the Iran-Contra scandal, and then again in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq.

One of the largest files is for a bribery investigation in which the senator was cleared.

The FBI routinely releases files after a prominent person's death.
