KAPAA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Coast Guard rescued a snorkeler about one mile from Kalalau Beach on Kauai Saturday.

The 61-year-old man lost consciousness after returning to the passenger vessel Na Pali Runabout. The vessel operator contacted the Coast Guard and pulled alongside the vessel in order to safely transport the man.

The patient was further assessed by crew members and a Coast Guard flight surgeon who determined the patient needed an immediate evacuation.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point then transported him to Emergency Medical Services at Lihue Airport, who took him to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue.

He was reportedly in stable condition.
