KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 54-year-old man who drowned in waters off Lydgate Beach Park last week while visiting from Seattle, Washington has been identified.

Hom Shu was swimming in Morgan's Ponds when he was located under water shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.

Bystanders pulled him to shore and began performing CPR until Medics and Kapa'a firefighters arrived to the scene. Shu was transported to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition where he was treated until he died the next night.

Volunteers with Life's Bridges, a grief-counseling service, and representatives from the Kauai Visitor's Bureau assisted Shu's family following the incident.

This is Kaua'i's fourteenth drowning so far this year.
