Kauai motorcyclist dies following traffic crash

KAPAA - According to Kauai police, a motorcyclist died following a traffic collision in Kapa'a this afternoon.

His identity has not yet been released.

The 52-year-old Kapa'a man was heading north on Khi Highway fronting Kintaro Restaurant at approximately 5 p.m., when he was struck by a southbound sedan that was turning left onto Lanikai Street from the highway.

The motorcyclist was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to police, he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The female driver of the sedan, age 82 of Kapa'a, was also transported to Wilcox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Khi Highway remains closed in both directions until further notice. Officers are on scene to divert traffic onto Papaloa Road in Wailua, but motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible.

This is the third traffic fatality on Kaua'i this year.
