HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A sense of history marked the start of filming for season four of Hawaii Five-0.
The cast and crew got to work for the first time at the home of the original series, where "Book 'em Danno" became a catch phrase more than thirty years ago.
That nostalgia wasn't lost on the cast as they reported to work, in good spirits.
"Look at this. How sexy is this?" teased Daniel Dae Kim about Alex O'Loughlin's full beard.
It's a new look, and new home for season four of Hawaii Five-0. "You've got to forgive me because this is the first time I've been in HQ since we've moved to this studio so I'm still taking it in" explained O'Loughlin.
It was all new to Five-0's leading man because he came straight from the airport, and a quick shower stop at home to the blessing.
Off season, crews moved into Diamond Head Studio, a sound stage with a lot of history. It was also home to Magnum PI and Lost.
Former Lost star Daniel Dae Kim said, "It's a little disorienting to see this space used in a different way and it's little bit odd to see HQ here." O'Loughlin chimes in, "Third time" to which Kim adds, "It's true, it's our third move."
A traditional blessing and untying of maile lei marked the start of season four-- and another move for Five-0 to Friday nights at 8.
Commander McGarrett's love interest, actress Michelle Borth thinks the move is a good thing. "A little more sexy time. We're on Friday night now so I'm thinking we can get more sexy time. Second base. I'm just saying."
It's a homecoming for regulars from the original series. Dennis Chun describes it as a "sense of deja vu. You could feel the old gang hanging around and walking in with us."
Kim recognizes the significance, saying, "To be able to shoot on these stages that have a lot of memories for fans of the original I think is really special."
Scott Caan and Grace Park were not at the blessing, but they will be back for Season 4, according to Executive Producer Peter Lenkov. He laughs off talk of Park being "killed off." In his words, "Grace is still in the show. Here's the thing about a cliffhanger. You don't know what's going to happen. We're glad people are asking these questions. Grace is back and has a really interesting story arc."
Once again, Hawaii fans will see the episode first with a sunset on the beach premiere planned for Thursday, September 26th.
O'Loughlin is excited for another premiere on the sand. "I love it" says the show's leading man. "I hope Hawaii wants to keep doing it. If they keep showing up, I'm thrilled to go."
If our HawaiiNewsNow.com live stream of the blessing is any indication fans will come. European diehards stayed up until 1 AM to catch our coverage.
As for that beard, O'Loughlin said he didn't have time to shave. We'll see if it's part of the show's plot or not-- in September.
