MFD and MPD investigating set of brush fires

KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Officials from both the Maui County Fire Department and Maui Police Department are looking into the cause of three brush fires that happened within minutes of each other Friday night.

The first two brush fires were less than a mile apart. The first happened on Maui Lani Parkway just west of the Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course entrance shortly after 7 p.m..

As crews responded to the fire, another call came in for a blaze on Mahaolu Street. Wailuku and Kahului firefighters responded to the brush fire, which spanned an acre.

Shortly after, a third brush fire was reported on Kuihelani Highway where Kihei and Wailea firefighters.

According to Maui County Fire officials, all three fires were extinguished before 9 p.m. No injuries and damages were reported.

As of Saturday morning, both MFD and MPD say it is unknown if the fires were intentionally set.
