PUNA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police have charged a Puna man for shooting a spear gun at a 20-year-old man in the Leilani Estates subdivision on June 25.

George Robert Curnutt, 49, of Leilani Estates was charged at 6:45 p.m. Thursday (June 27) with second-degree attempted murder.

He was being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $500,000 bail pending his initial court appearance.

The victim was critically injured in the attack, but his condition has since improved.
