Federal agents arrest ex-Honolulu police officer

HONOLULU (AP) - A former Honolulu police officer has been arrested for allegedly possessing stolen U.S. government property taken from a Drug Enforcement Administration agent's vehicle.

A DEA special agent says in a criminal complaint that his vehicle was burglarized. Stolen items included a bulletproof vest with DEA patches, a police emergency visor light, binoculars and a DEA dashboard placard. He says an informant told him the items were at a former Honolulu policeman's home.

The complaint says that during Saturday's raid at Christopher Carlson's home, agents found stolen DEA items and drugs.

Carlson was released on $50,000 bond. Defense attorney Megan Kau says he didn't know the items were stolen and he planned to return them.

Kau says Carlson was a 15-year veteran of the force who resigned after a drunken-driving conviction.
