Pacifica Festival: 'Feeding Hawaii Together'

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - There is a big event happening tomorrow at Kapiolani Park at 9:00a.m. called the Pacifica Festival. Grace Lee talks with a few of the event supporters to find out how it benefits our community.

This annual charitable project called 'Feeding Hawaii Together' is unlike your typical food distribution program.  'Feeding Hawaii Together' employs a grocery-store style setup which enables qualifying individuals to "shop" from a wide assortment of perishable and non-perishable foods directly from refrigerators and shelves. By providing food in this manner, our shoppers are able to retain their dignity, build confidence, become self-sufficient and eat more balanced meals.

The best part is, unlike some food distribution services, the food here is free. Individuals can shop once a week and take home as much food as they can carry. 'Feeding Hawaii Together' is the only place that offers this kind of service in Hawaii, and perhaps even the nation and our ultimate goal is to end hunger in Hawaii.

You can support this project 'Feeding Hawaii Together' by bringing down non-perishable food items so the empty shelves can be restocked to assist individuals and fight hunger in Hawai`i. 'Feeding Hawaii Together' has provided food to 2,763 adults and 2,200 individuals on a monthly basis.
