The University of Hawai'i football team continues to add more big name opponents to its future schedules with a single-game at UCLA in 2017 and a home-and-home series against Kansas in 2016 and 2017.
"The addition of UCLA and Kansas elevates the strength of our non-conference football schedules," said Athletics Director Ben Jay. "Both are top-notch programs and are the type of teams our fans want to see us play. We will continue to schedule teams from these conferences to add to our future schedules and find every opportunity to showcase our student-athletes and our university to a national audience."
The Rainbow Warriors will make their first-ever appearance at the Rose Bowl for a game against UCLA of the Pac-12, Sept. 9, 2017. The last time UH and UCLA met on the gridiron was during the 1930s. The schools played in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1935 with the Bruins prevailing 19-6 and again on New Year's Day 1939 in the Pineapple Bowl at Honolulu Stadium which UCLA won 32-7.
UH and Kansas of the Big 12 open their two-game series at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kan., Sept. 24, 2016 and play the following year at Aloha Stadium, Sept. 2, 2017. The teams met once previously, opening the 1985 season in Honolulu, which the Jayhawks won 33-27.
In 2014, the Warriors will play three Pac-12 opponents through the first four weeks of the season including back-to-back home games against Washington (Aug. 30) and Oregon State (Sept. 6). UH concludes the homestand by hosting Football Championship Subdivision's Northern Iowa (Sept. 13) before travelling to Boulder, Colo., to play Colorado (Sept. 20).
UH and Colorado will also play in Honolulu Sept. 5, 2015.
In addition, several originally scheduled games will move to different seasons. The Washington game scheduled for 2015 in Seattle, Wash., will move to a yet to be determined season. The Navy game scheduled for Aloha Stadium in 2015, has been moved to Sept. 1, 2018 and the Western Kentucky game scheduled for 2018, has been pushed back to Sept. 3, 2022.
As previously announced, Hawai'i will play at Michigan, Sept. 3, 2016 and home-and-home series against two Pac-12 teams – Arizona, Aug. 31, 2019 in Honolulu and Sept. 5, 2020 in Tucson, Ariz.; and Oregon State, Sept. 7, 2019 in Honolulu and Sept. 11, 2021 in Corvallis, Ore.
