WAIMEA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - Some residents on the Big Island will hear loud explosions and wailing sirens on Thursday as crews conduct work on a rock excavation project in the Lalamilo subdivision in Waimea.
The blasts will be part of a project that the Department of Hawaiian Homelands broke ground on late in 2012.
Residents and nearby businesses will receive five minute and one minute warning sirens before each blast, and an all-clear sound will be given afterwards.
