Public hearings on proposed Kulani reopening scheduled
Two public hearings have been scheduled this month regarding a plan to re-open the Kulani Correctional Facility.
The State Department of Public Safety's proposed a plan that would re-open the facility and house about 200 minimum security male inmates. It was originally closed in 2009 to save state money.
During both hearings, the Environmental Assessment will be discussed.
The first hearing will be held at the Aupuni Center (101 Pauahi Street) on January 22 in Hilo at 4 p.m.
The second hearing will occur on January 31 in Keaau at the Keaau Community Center (16-186 Pili Mua Street) at 5 p.m.
