HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Three finalists have been identified for the position of University Librarian at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  They are scheduled to participate in a two-day period of visits that covers Library department discussions; meetings with senior administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of their respective professions; and a public presentation.

"The University Libraries are a critical part of our students' and faculty success," Chancellor Tom Apple said. "I would like to thank the Search Advisory Committee for identifying a pool of highly qualified candidates."

Campus and community members, as well as the general public, are encouraged to attend.

The campus visits of the three candidates have been scheduled as follows:

Dr. Brad Eden, visiting January 17-18
Dean of Library Services
Valparaiso University
Public Presentation: Friday, January 18, 3:00-4:15 p.m./Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics, Room 110

Ms. Stephanie Walker, visiting January 28-29
Chief Librarian and Executive Director of Academic Information Technology
City University of New York-Brooklyn College
Public Presentation: Tuesday, January 29, 3:00-4:15 p.m./Center for Korean Studies Auditorium

Dr. Irene Herold, visiting February 7-8
Dean, Mason Library
Keene State College
Public Presentation: Friday, February 8, 3:00-4:15 p.m./Center for Korean Studies Auditorium

"A university's library stands at the very center of any university's attempt to realize its dual mission of creating new knowledge through research and disseminating that knowledge through formal instruction as well as other means," said Reed Dasenbrock,  vice chancellor for academic affairs. "It is hard to imagine a more important position at UH Mânoa today than the position of University Librarian, and we are fortunate to have three strong candidates for this position."
