Escaped convict search locks down Hilo High School

The campus of Hilo High School on the Big Island was briefly locked down on Friday after school officials were notified that two convicts who escaped the Hawaii Community Correctional Facility may have been in the area.

According to Hilo High's principal, the lockdown at the school was in effect between 10:35 a.m. and 11:05 a.m.

Police say Jarvis Naoki Higa and Ryan James Jeffries-Hamar should be in prison, but have spent the last two days on the run after their escape on Wednesday morning.

The suspects have not yet been found, and a manhunt by police continues at this hour.
