NANAKULI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police say an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home on Haleakala Avenue in Nanakuli surrendered peacefully Tuesday afternoon.

The man, identified as Gerald Fuentes, and his girlfriend were reportedly in the process of breaking up and arguing when police were called. When authorities arrived, Fuentes allegedly threatened officers with a gun and barricaded himself in the house.

The situation forced HPD to put three Nanakuli schools—Nanakuli Elementary, Nanaikapono Elementary, and Nanakuli High and Intermediate School—on lockdown at around 1:45 p.m. Students were kept in their classrooms until the suspect was arrested.

Fuentes surrendered approximately two hours after the incident began and was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping for abuse.

Officers brought him back a short time later so that he could see his girlfriend, who cleaned his face and gave him a kiss.

No one was hurt in the incident.
