Voting machines tested one more time before next week's Primary

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With the primary election a week away, officials are making sure that the voting equipment is working properly.

Voting machines that will be used next week Saturday were tested again to ensure their accuracy. The tests in the state senate chambers were observed by officials, an independent group from the different political parties and community groups.

Those observers will be limited to what they can do on election night.

"On election day, they're sequestered," said state chief election officer Scott Nago. "We're running actual live ballots, we can't have results being leaked out, that's why they can't use their cell phones. They're basically out of contact with the outside world."

Polling places for the primary election will open at 7 a.m. Saturday, August 11.
