Third UH football player arrested for DUI since March
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the third time in four months, a University of Hawaii football player has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Warrior punter Alex Dunnachie, 21, was arrested at the corner of Piikoi and South King streets at approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning. The senior from Australia posted $500 dollars bail and was released a few hours later.
UH Athletics Director Jim Donovan says both he and Coach Norm Chow were disappointed in the arrest.
"I can certainly tell you that Coach Chow is not happy and is frustrated, and that's going to be expressed to the whole team, as it probably was even after the first incident," Donovan said. "This is not typical of the 450-500 athletes that we do have, but sometimes these young people make mistakes, and they have to own up to those mistakes and we certainly hope learn from them."
Quarterback Cayman Shutter was arrested for DUI back in March, and linebacker Reid "Alema" Tachibana was booked on the same charge on June 18.
