HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii's Democrats will be holding their state convention over the weekend.

The convention will start Friday and end on Sunday with a tribute to U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka who is retiring, followed by a grand rally.

Other events include a call to action address by Secretary of the Democratic National Committee Alice Germond and a forum for Democratic candidates running for the 2nd Congressional District.

Town hall meetings will discuss Hawaii issues including rail, undersea cable and health care transformation.

The party says one of the convention themes will be "Hawaii is Obama country."
