KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) - A Walmart store is set to open in a rapidly growing West Oahu community.
When the Walmart opens in Kapolei on Wednesday, it will join four others on Oahu, one on Kauai, one on Maui and two on the Big Island. There are also two Sam's Clubs on Oahu, which is part of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
The company says the 150,000-square foot Kapolei store will bring 300 new jobs with an average full-time hourly wage of about $14.56.
The store will be open 24 hours a day.
Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii President and CEO Jim Tollefson says the store brings much needed jobs during a challenging economy and has supported 200 construction jobs in the process.
