Judge approves UH data breach settlement
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A judge has approved the University of Hawaii's settlement over a major data breach involving thousands of students, faculty, alumni and employees.
The breaches exposed the personal information of nearly 100,000 people at UH Manoa, Kapiolani Community College, Honolulu Community College, and UH West Oahu between 2009 and 2011.
Under the class action settlement, all of those people will be offered two years of credit monitoring and fraud restoration services.
An attorney who represented the class of plaintiffs calls the settlement "historic."
