HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former Hawaii Pacific University administrative assistant was sentenced to five years probation for stealing more than $13,000 in school parking fees.
On Wednesday, a judge ruled that Dorothy Inouye will pay $13,076.75 in restitution.
Before learning her punishment, Inouye apologized in court. She says she stole the money out of desperation, due to the death of her father and ovarian cancer diagnosis for her 17-year-old daughter.
"I'm terribly sorry for what I have done," Inouye said. "I have disappointed myself, and mostly my family and friends."
According to HPU, the 47 year old is no longer with the school.
Inouye could have received up to five years in jail.
