The Rockford Register Star reports that Mokulele Airlines wants to leap between continents, connecting Rockford, IL with Honolulu in March.
Mokulele, through its subsidiary Mokulele Tours, must first get approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to operate public charter flights.
The report says the airline has support from the Greater Rockford Airport Authority, which said it would agree to a one-year, $1.4 million revenue guarantee for Mokulele to launch the route, pending FAA approval.
Hawaii service could start March 16.
Ticket sales would begin as soon as approval is given.
