HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Former Chaminade men's basketball assistant coach, Mike Mathey, apologized to the team after stepping down due to an inappropriate message. Mathey, 24, mistakenly sent a text message with a racial slur to a player instead of a friend.
In a written statement he said, "I made a big, big mistake, but I am taking responsibility for my actions. I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart. Maybe one day you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
According to the school, Mathey has returned to the mainland.
