John Carroll (R) announces run for Congress

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Republican John Carroll Wednesday afternoon announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate.

Carroll is the first Republican to announce a run for the seat that will be left behind by retiring Sen. Daniel Akaka.

Democrats Ed Case and U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono have already announced that they'll be running for the seat.

The former Air Force and Hawaiian Airlines pilot ran for governor back in 2010 and is a Korean War veteran.
