HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The first of several monk seal public forums kick off Monday night.

The public is invited to brainstorm ideas to protect Hawaii's beaches and reefs, not only for monk seals, but for paddlers, fishermen, surfers, swimmers and beachgoers.

The first meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. on Molokai at the Mitchell Pauole Center.

Forums will then continue on Maui, Kauai, Oahu and the Big Island.
