HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii's first memorial honoring fallen law enforcement officers is one step closer to reality.
Governor Neil Abercrombie and members of the Hawaii Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday at the memorial's future site near the Kalanimoku Building.
The winning design was also unveiled.
In April, Governor Abercrombie signed House Bill 1622 to have the memorial built on Capitol grounds.
Sixty officers in Hawaii have lost their lives while on duty.
