KAHUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire at the Kahuku Wind farm is finally out. Firefighters were called out to a service building at Kawela Camp and Charlie Roads, at about 6:00 p.m. Friday night, after a piece of electrical equipment caught fire.
Crews had to wait until the room was de-energized before going in, since the farm uses the building to put electricity into the power grid. A hazmat crew helped fire fighters assess the damage Saturday after going inside the building.
There is still no estimate on the amount of damages, because the equipment is so specialized. The Fire Department spokesperson says they are investigating the cause of the fire.
