Kamehameha Schools Song Contest

“I’m just so proud of my class, and the big thing is that we are sharing the songs of our kupuna, our ancestors.”

This year’s theme was “Na Mele Paniolo,” songs of the Hawaiian cowboy.

Along with musicality and Hawaiian language, Kamehameha Schools students must understand the meaning behind their songs.

This year Kamehameha freshmen will be singing a fun song about Kupa Landing in Hookena on Hawaii island’s west side.

The Hawaiian word paniolo comes from the Spanish word, español.

The event was once again held live and in-person at the Blaisdell Arena.

Meanwhile, there was a tie in the category of best student song director.

Together they sang “Ola nā 'Ōiwi Aloha 'Āina,” the song that would've been their co-ed finale.
