Suspect arrested after apparent triple stabbing at Hawaii Kai home
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Three people were seriously injured in Hawaii Kai overnight following an apparent triple stabbing, police said. A suspect is in custody.
Officials said said three men — ages 46, 37, and 74 — were taken to the hospital.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the 700 Block of Ipuai Street in Hawaii Kai. A 41-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested at 12:50 a.m. near Kalanianaole Highway.
The suspect was identified as Matthew Smith. He remains in custody, pending investigation.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said it administered advanced life saving treatments several individuals who had been apparently stabbed. Authorities say the suspect “used a dangerous instrument and assaulted the homeowner and two roommates.”

Just a few hours later, police responded to a separate attempted murder case in Chinatown.
A portion of River Street was shut down between Nimitz and King Street for investigation.
According to HPD, two men in their 20s were approached by two unknown males who brandished firearms about 2 a.m. Investigators said one victim sustained a grazing gunshot wound to his head after one of the suspects attempted to shoot him in the head.
The suspects then fled the scene.
The victim was was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in good condition.
Officials told HNN, a vehicle was located in Waipahu in connection with the Chinatown investigation, but they say no arrests have been made at this time.
