Hawaii Gas, union workers resume contract negotiations amid strike
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Progress has been made in contract negotiations with Hawaii Gas for hundreds of union workers, officials said Saturday.
This comes after union workers went on strike Thursday amid a contract dispute over pay, medical costs, and retirement benefits.
Hawaii Gas officials confirmed in a statement that negotiations with the Teamsters Local 996 resumed Saturday, and they look forward to coming to an agreement.
Hawaii Gas says their facilities remain staffed and operational.
Meanwhile, some 70,000 customers are potentially affected. Hawaii hotels are major customers and most hotel kitchens use gas.
