HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The flash flood warning that was issued for Kauai has been canceled Tuesday afternoon as heavy rains subsided, but a flood watch remains.

Forecasters said heavy rains could return later in the day, and with the already saturated grounds, that could increase flood threats. Rain gauges showed more than a foot of rain over parts of Kauai.

A flood watch also remains in effect for Niihau.

Hawaii News Now has also canceled a First Alert Weather Day for Kauai.

The First Alert Weather Day marked for Oahu on Monday night was canceled Tuesday morning as conditions improved.

What’s a First Alert Weather Day?

First Alert Forecast: Heavy rain with flooding conditions persist over the west end of the state

Rainfall is expected to gradually diminish Wednesday as the low weakens and drifts westward.

An upper-level trough is forecast to move in from the northeast later in the week, keeping some instability over the islands, but expected breezy trade winds should keep showers on the move.
