HPD and witnesses: ‘Crazed’ suspect intentionally ran over woman pushing stroller in Walmart parking lot
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An attempted murder investigation is underway after police say a suspect intentionally ran over a woman who was pushing her baby in a stroller in the Mililani Walmart parking lot.
The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to officials, the 37-year-old woman was pushing her 6-month-old child in the parking lot when she was hit by the vehicle and dragged about 15 feet.
A bystander, a 40-year-old man, jumped in to help the woman and her baby.
But, police say, the suspect got out of his vehicle and used a “dangerous instrument” to attack him, police said.
Witnesses described the weapon as a crowbar or tire iron.
“When I got close a saw a man with a crowbar beating a man that was on the ground,” said one witness.
“He was all bloody. The guy with the crowbar was hitting him all over his body, all over his head.”
The witness added that the woman’s legs appeared to be badly injured.
She pleaded with the suspect to stop “and he just wouldn’t, he wouldn’t. He was crazed.”
Honolulu EMS administered advanced life support at the scene and transported the two victims to the hospital in critical condition.
Police arrested the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Desmond Kekahuna, on two counts of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
